Obituary of Rosa Brandt

In the early morning of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Rosa Brandt peacefully slipped into eternity, meeting her Lord and Saviour. In the last few months, she longed for this moment to come but with mixed emotions of departing from her dear family.

83 years earlier, she was born on Saturday, June 28, 1941, into the family of Abram & Anna Penner, as the 9th child of 10.

Around the age of 10 she read a little book called “Whiter Than Snow and Little Dot” and it made such a profound impact on her that she made the decision to ask Jesus to be her Saviour, desiring to serve Him with all her heart.

After schooling in Landmark, she went on to study and develop numerous skills. Some of which included floristry, cake decorating, and teaching.

In 1968 while teaching in the Riverton area, she met Ben. They met, fell in love, and married all within the same year.

Their first daughter Pam was born in 1974, followed by Loralie in 1977, and finally Ivan in 1980.

When Dad was registered as legally blind in 1985, things began to change, and Mom started to take on more work outside the home while caring for dad and her family. Even though she found life to be very difficult, she remained steady in her faith, doing her best to keep us spiritually grounded.

As time went on, and life readjusted itself, grandchildren became the highlight of her life. She focused on teaching and including them in all the things she enjoyed, such as baking, gardening, and crafts. Decorating the Christmas tree and preparing Christmas dinner became a cherished yearly tradition.

In 2020 after Dad passed away, God put it on her heart to “encourage one another daily” as it says in Hebrews 3. She did this in the way of sending friends and family a mini picture devotional that she created each day. This ministered to many far and wide. She continued this until July of this year, when at that time she found it too difficult to do so.

She meant a lot to so many folks, encouraging people to see the silver lining in dark times, to rejoice in hard times. She was often quoted to say, “God lives in the praises of His people” (Psalm 22) and her life was a representation of this.

In her last months of life, she strived to dwell on these verses...“He will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him” and also “let the peace of God rule in your heart”

She is survived by her family, Pam Loewen, Loralie & Mike Hilles, Ivan & Doris Brandt, grandchildren Kyla Loewen, Leanna & Ben Carlson, Calen & Teshia Loewen, Justin Loewen, and Saphina & Tim Mohamed, Ashton, Annalise, & Alaya Hilles, Logan, Xavier, & Maylea Brandt, and great-grandsons Connor & Oliver Carlson and Andrew & Peter Loewen.

She is also dearly remembered by two brothers, Henry and John Penner, two sisters-in-law Esther Barkman and Faith Martens, in-laws from Ben’s family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband Ben (2020) and son-in-law Corny Loewen (2024), her parents Abram & Anna Penner, two brothers, five sisters, and in-laws from the Brandt family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre medical ward for their kindness and compassionate care.

The viewing will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 7:00-8:30 pm. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
