Obituary of Eileen Freund

Eileen peacefully passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB.

Eileen was born on September 8, 1946, in the Steinbach Hospital to parents Gustav & Alma (nee Biedler) Freund. She was baptized in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Friedensfeld and confirmed in St. Paul’s in Steinbach. She also attended school in Friedensfeld.

Eileen worked at the Steinbach Sewing Factory and, in her twenties, moved to Winnipeg and started working at Paulin Chambers cookie and candy factory where she stayed for 25 years. Shortly after the Winnipeg plant closed their doors, Eileen took odd jobs until she officially retired. Eileen remained single all her life and enjoyed travelling. Her favorite place on earth was Hawaii where she visited several times. She lived her final years in a retirement community in St. Vital, where she made some good friends. She has some health issues in her later years and eventually cancer was her final battle.

Eileen is survived by her sisters Linda Freund, Norma Dyback, and Elaine Osadchuk, and brother-in-law Ted Osadchuk.

She was predeceased by her parents, infant sister Nora Freund, sister Elfrieda Smuk & brother Elmer Freund.  Also, her brothers-in-law: Roy Freund & Tom Dyback; great-nephews: Zachary Warkentin & Brandon Smith; great-niece Kristin Chaban, and niece Karen Freund (Bradley).

A family graveside service will take place Sunday, June 4, 2023, at St. John’s Cemetery, Friedensfeld, MB.
