My sincere sympathies to the Klippenstein families. The tributes to your Dad were so beautiful and enjoyable. The lovely photo of Larry is exactly as I remember him during my time in the Reimer family. May your memories comfort you in the years ahead as you truly will always miss him. Bev Pauls (Peters)

Lawrence led the committee he and I were on that involved the preservation and relocation of the old Altbergthal Schoolhouse of his home community. Our group first met on July 17, 2010, to explore the idea of saving the school from the wrecking ball, which culminated, 36 meetings later, in the building being moved to a permanent and valued position in the village of Neubergthal, where it has been steadily restored and preserved. This was accomplished partly through the support of private donors. Lawrence was passionately involved in every step of the process.
He really kept the momentum going and stressed the need to keep detailed minutes of every meeting. No idea from any board member was ever deemed irrelevant. He had a subtle way of putting pressure on people to perform the duties that had been delegated to them. Despite numerous setbacks, it was clear that Lawrence would never give up on any project that he started (although he was never quite able to come through with asking anybody for a donation!).
I worked with him on other projects as well, and noticed that he preferred to avoid confrontation and never spoke negatively about anyone. I learned a lot from working with Lawrence, and will miss him as a friend and colleague.

Dear Family,
My memories of your Dad are filled with warmth - the ways he patiently cared for your Mom after her stroke, the conversations of depth yet seasoned with laughter, his choice to ‘look on the bright side’ and the twinkle in his eyes, the evidence of his love for you all and his prayers for you, his interest in the lives of others, his faith in God’s presence and goodness. Uncle Larry was an example of a real gentleman - a rare and wonderful trait! I look forward to our next visit - what a day of rejoicing that will be!
Sending my love to you all, and praying for you as you journey through this time of grief.

What an incredible life to celebrate! We wish we would have known Mr. Klippenstein here on earth but heard amazing stories of him over the years from his dear son Norman, our friend. Sending love to his beautiful family as you adjust to life without him. On days when you miss him dearly, wear a shirt or jacket of his which will feel like a warm hug....or hug each other - there's a piece of him in each of you! Many blessings to you.

We wish to extend our condolences to the family of Lawrence Klippenstein: Norman, Noreen, Nathan and Jerry and to his sister Dolores and brother Alfred. We will remember Lawrence for many things but especially for his time as pastor at AMC and for the common interest of Klippenstein genealogy. I also remember fondly the times Noreen and Nathan played in our church (at my request sometimes). May you feel blessed by the love your father (brother) had for you and for the many 'lessons' and experiences he shared with you. May you feel God's hand of comfort, strength and peace at this time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Ken & Elaine Loewen

I had the honor of getting to know Mr. Klippenstein through his son Nathan. I spent many evenings at the Klippenstein house enjoying dinner and singing hymns around the piano. I had the pleasure of being invited on a trip with Mr. Klippenstein and Nathan to Grand Forks in the late 70s. As a teenager I was intigued at Mr. Klippenstein's formal, and very proper way of speaking. Inspite of this formal manner of speech, I never questioned his sincerity and concern for others. Since knowing the Klippensteins for the last 44 years, I had a tradition of calling their house every Christmas eve and wish everyone well. Lately, with Mr. Klippenstein living alone, we would have a little longer conversation those times which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, this past year I regretably did not call. When Nathan called to inform me of his dad's passing, my heart sank. Then, I realized and smiled when I thought to myself....We will chat again in Heaven!

Lawrence was a valued, respected, and much appreciated contributor to the work of the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach. He had a great depth of knowledge and a real love for the stories of our Mennonite people. It was my distinct honour to know Lawrence. He was a fine man and will be missed. John H. Peters

To the children and grandchildren of Lawrence: I am sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you God's peace as you remember this time and reflect on his life. I first encountered Lawrence and LaVerna in March 1976 when they transferred their church membership from Altona Mennonite Church to Home Street Mennonite Church. Eight months later I too joined that congregation and continued to worship together till I moved in 2013. Those years bring back many good memories of their contributions to the life of the church. I also have good memories of playing trumpet with Norman and Nathan, and of having Jerry as a student at MBCI. Then I worked together with Lawrence in the archives for the Conference of Mennonites in Canada from 1994 until his retirement, followed by many more years of his continued involvements with Mennonite history. He was always willing to help and be supportive in this work. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to all of Dad's children, grandchildren, surviving siblings and in-laws and many friends and colleagues. Dad (father in-law) was always loving and supportive. He inspired me in many ways. He maintained a curiosity for life throughout his days. He always wanted to be in on conversation of contemporary social and political topics and had an inner drive to maintain a youthful and vibrant life outlook. He was eager to discuss career and family developments, to listen with compassion and understanding, to engage thoughtfully, intellectually, and with measured sober second (and third and fourth...) thought and reflection. He didn't like my convertible much, perhaps more puzzled by the idea of a car without a roof, than dissapproving - as was his way with things. He was a servant leader always, before it was a popular concept, and a much loved family man. His open inquiring mind was a grace, to himself and his family alike. Life is constant change and Dad showed us how to roll with it "big time" (inner circle joke). Dad was a model of devotion and commitment to his faith, his family, his community, and his values. He will be missed by all who knew him. I am so grateful for my shared life with him. - Ron Janzen

Special visits with Uncle Larry and Aunt Laverna during those years we overlapped in Steinbach are now treasured memories. I'm richer to have witnessed their sunset lives of faithfulness to each other, patient commitments, prayers, and to have been a recipient of their grace and love.
Uncle Larry's capacity for saying anything in a positive and often regal way was most amusing and exemplary.
We will soon hang out again!
My love and heartfelt condolences to my cousins.

To the family of Lawrence Klippenstein. When my wife and I were invited by MCC to go to a small Mennonite village in Siberia in 1992, Lawrence and Laverna were asked to go ahead and meet us in Moscow to prepare us for the long trip to Neudachino ,Siberia. We arived in Moscow in Jan, 1993 and were accepted and greeted by the finest people we have ever met .We felt like we had always known each other etc etc , and then a week later Lawrence accompanied us to the village in Siberia . He only stayed two days but iit was a trip and an occasion we shall never, never forget. Our "Community Development"
assignment lasted 12 years, but we had constant conversation with Lawrence ,Laverna . We shall never, never forget our intensive relationship with the Klippensteins . Lawrence had very special gifts that he used so humbly and professionally.
Our wonderful relationship continued to very recently thru much constant communication. Our deepest sympathies to all the family. He has reached his heavenly reward and we hope to meet again soon . Ben Erna Falk Niagara Ont.
