Obituary of Lena Baziuk

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lena passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the Vita Personal Care Home at the age of 91 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Sonia (Raymond) Rudy, son Bill and daughter Lucy, also grandchildren: Dwayne Rudy (Alanna Veness) and Lisa (Shawn) Paluck, as well as great-grandchildren: Alexandra & Nicholas Paluck and Grayson & Logan Rudy. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Mike, all of her siblings, as well as her son-in-law Robert (Bob) McRoberts.

Mom was born on January 14, 1931 and lost her mother at a very early age. She was raised by her older sister Mary and her husband Mike Diduch. She met Mike Baziuk in her teen years and they were married on September 14, 1947. Together they built a successful mixed farm six miles north of Vita. Throughout her many years on the farm she was known for her hospitality. Visitors to her home were always assured they would not leave without having a delicious meal. After Dad's passing in 2008 Mom moved into Vita, spending seven years at the Shady Oaks Seniors Residence. She made many new friends there and very much enjoyed the card games, bingo and entertainment. An unfortunate stroke in November of 2017 left her unable to care for herself, and she was moved into the Vita Personal Care Home for her remaining years. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Vita Personal Care Home for the excellent care they provided for Mom throughout her years at the home.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with Very Rev. Fr. Miron Pozniak officiating. There is a capacity limit to the service. All public health orders will be followed and proof of vaccination is required

A reception following the service will take place at Birchwood prior to the interment at the Vita North Community Cemetery.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Birchwood Funeral Chapel for their kindness, compassion and assistance during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
