Obituary of Inette Asmundson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Inette Joice Asmundson on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the Stonewall and District Health Centre.

Inette was born in the Community of Dunston, Manitoba, on February 15, 1937, to Helena and Adolf Holtz. She was the fourth oldest of seven children raised on the farm, Vera, Violet, Kenneth, Evelyn, James and Myrna. Inette attended Shannon School where she received her grade one to nine education. The community was eight miles from Morden, so she had to leave home at an early age to pursue her high school education in Morden. Inette went on to Normal School (Teachers College) and began her career in Piney. This is where she met her husband Edward Carl Asmundson. They both loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and operated an outfitting service for hunters. They enjoyed competitive trap shooting, winning provincial championships and making new friends all over Manitoba. After teaching for 37 years, she retired with her husband in Piney. She loved being involved in the community as school trustee, secretary for the curling club and community church, palliative volunteer, but most of all she loved her music and art. Inette would sing and play her guitar in church, senior homes and private gatherings. She was a very talented artist, over the years she donated numerous paintings for fundraisers. Her compassion for animals had no boundaries. She loved watching and attending her grand children’s hunting and sports events. Of all the titles and accomplishments, she acquired in her life becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother was her proudest. Edward passed away in 2001 and she continued living in their home until four years ago. Inette moved closer to her daughter in Stonewall, Manitoba, and resided in Lions Manor where she met and enjoyed all her new friends and neighbors.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Glenda and son-in-law Serge Lajoie, her dearly loved grandchildren: Miranda (Bryn) Lindsay; great-grandchildren: Krew, Locke and Gianna; grandson Paul (Alyssa), step-granddaughters: Michelle (Scotte) Taylor; great-grandchildren: Kian, Kade and Koen, and Mandi (Kris) Scoran; great-grandchildren: Taryn, Talia, Taya and Knox.

Inette is survived by her sisters: Evelyn Otto of Ashern, Manitoba, Myrna (Oscar) Coyle of St. Albert, Alberta, and sister-in-law Yvonne Holtz of Airdrie, Alberta. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law Gordon (Brandi), sisters-in-law Louise, Mavis, Winnie, Edna, Grace (Helmar), and Eileen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Lions Manor, where she lived in her final years. We would also like to thank Dr. Hicks and the staff of the Stonewall District Health Centre for all their care and compassion over Inette’s final days.

If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Inette can be made to the Badger Cemetery or Piney Community Church.

The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. There is a capacity limit to the service. All public health orders will be followed and proof of vaccination is required.
