Obituary of Edna Gerbrand

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Gerbrand, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the age of 59.

Edna leaves to cherish her memory, siblings Frieda Gerbrand, Mathilda Gerbrand, Barb Falk, , Elma Wiens (Ron), Irvin Gerbrand, Lotte Vlasblom  (Lawrence), Olga Neufeld (Derek), Irene (Jason) Plett, her nine nieces and nephews Luke, Leah, Donny, Cody, Taylor, Dylan, Aryn, Marley and Zoe and six great-nieces and nephews.

Edna was predeceased by her parents Peter and Esther Gerbrand, and one sister Diane Gerbrand. 

Edna was born on January 12, 1962 on Colony Bergthal, Paraguay where she lived until young adulthood.  She then moved to Canada with her sister to start a new life in Steinbach, Manitoba. 

Edna was raised with a strong work ethic and was a hard worker all her life, even after she retired.  She filled her days with projects that she enjoyed and now had time for such as canning, sewing and baking.  Staying connected with her family was of the utmost importance to her.  She valued visits, going for coffee, phone calls or texting and made sure to connect with her nieces, nephews and cousins through social media.  Her family was her greatest treasure and it was evident in her devotion to them. 

Edna’s home was filled with activity as she hosted many international students and welcomed family members for stays.  She looked forward to those summer visits from family who came from out of town.  Edna was also quite a traveler. She enjoyed many trips to Mexico, Alberta and Ontario. A highlight of her travels was revisiting her birthplace in Paraguay and then taking an opportunity to travel in Brazil.  

A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10:00 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.  

A private family burial will take place at the Silberfeld CMC Cemetery, following the service.
