Obituary of Margaret Peters
Margaret Peters, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at her home in Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB, with her daughters, Sara and Margaret by her side.
Margaret was born on June 10, 1922, in Chortitz, MB, to Diedrich and Susanna Thiessen.
Her parents moved to Mexico when she was just a baby. She grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico, among the old colony Mennonites.
She found peace with God at the age of 16, and was baptized shortly before she got married to Wilhelm Reddekopp in September 1943. In March 1945, Wilhelm passed away from a short battle of Typhoid Fever. God had blessed them with two boys, and both boys died shortly after that too. So in just over two years, she got married and buried her husband and two children. She was devastated and was compelled to move back in with her mother.
In 1949, she met and married Jacob Peters, a handsome young widower with four children. Together they had eight children to make it an even dozen. They were married for 58 blessed years.
Mom was a devoted wife and mother. Always very concerned about her children's well being physically and especially spiritually.
In 1965, they moved to Jagueyes and joined the Kleingemeinde Church. To give their big family a better chance to hear the gospel.
In 1992, they moved to Camp 101 and joined the German Church of God. Since most of their children moved to Canada they decided to move too, to be closer to their children. Mom always needed to be close to her family, she did not like to be alone. Mom loved to sing, she always wanted us to sing at gatherings. Reading the Bible was very important. She read through the New Testament many times. She marked down, 73 times! When Mom was 79 years old, she finally had time for a hobby, she learned to crochet. She made lots of slippers yet.
Mom is survived by her sister Mary, lots of nieces and nephews and her 12 children: Franz & Anna Peters, Blumenort, MB, Agnes Reimer, Blumenort, MB, Hein & Lena Reimer, AB, Sara Peters, Steinbach, MB, Susanna & Alvin Dueck, Paris, Texas, Jake & Lavina Peters, Blumenort, MB, Rick & Tina Peters, Leamington, ON, Margaret Loewen, Rosenort, MB, Edith & Jake Peters, Rosenort, MB, Abe & Mary Peters, Steinbach, MB, Neil & Marilyn Peters, Lorette, MB, Tina & Calvin Loewen, Barrhead AB and their families; her 41 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
