Wayne was like a big brother to me, we had a very close relationship for many years and I would like to share some of our times. We met through friends at school, Sheldon and my brother were friends, and Wayne was a friend of Sheldon. Wayne and I were a little younger and we both shared very similar interests. We went on some epic fishing trips to The Pas where we caught and released lake trout till we could fish no more. Wayne was always able to do anything; if it broke he could fix it. He had a mathematical mind that could attack any challenge that came along; from broken fishing gear, to making the first vape machine. He was very bright. Wayne was also way ahead of his time. Before computers were in households and long before the world web, there was only one WW: Wayne Warkentin. That name stuck hard for many years.
Our crew made a trip to Vancouver one weekend to pick up a stereo system. Six guys in a van for 72 hours, is an experience none of us will ever forget and some may never remember. Oh what fun.
There were four of us that lived together in St Boniface, now that’s the stuff reality TV was made from. I won’t call it a party house but we did have a lot of fun learning how to live with each other, both the good and bad. We entertained each other in shopping carts rides, going to the lake camping, going out wilderness camping and finding local “crappie” fishing spots, that we would later complain about.
Wayne and I did a lot of growing up together. We both married young and faced similar “young married” challenges together, but both stepped up to our responsibilities and had families. Our young families would get together and have the best cook out fires, all thanks to WW. And yes, the evening would not be complete without Wayne sending out a few rockets into the sky. WW you were amazing and I will love you forever. May the heavens take great care of you until we meet again.
To Nathan, Michelle, Mathew and Heidi, I give my deepest condolences on the loss of a great Dad and good friend to many.

I attended high school with Wayne. Being part of the Commercial Arts group of friends, I got to know a lot of students from the Ste. Anne area and Landmark. I remember Wayne as a people person, very sociable and friendly. Later on after high school we enjoyed some social events with Wayne's family and Wayne's close friend Sheldon Wiebe, who has also passed on. My heartfelt condolences to all of the family. May you experience the peace of God in these days.

Met Wayne through a mutual friend about 13 years ago, I will remember him always with a smile on his face, being a good listener, calling my cat Strings for a reason only Wayne knew, as my cat’s name was actually Crackers. He had a love for life & being in the country & enjoyed nature. You will be missed by many my friend & I’ll always remember you with a smile. My condolences go out to your 3 children & your siblings.
Rest In Peace my friend.

I remember as a child playing with Michelle in the yard, our parents having a bonfire and bbq, and Wayne would spend most of his time in his garage building excitement for all of us to see at night with his homemade fireworks...he had the most genuine smile and character.

I’ve been fortunate to call Wayne my friend for 47 yrs,
and man we had some times.
He is now and will always be missed!
A good friend of ours sent me this little poem, and in honour of Wayne I’m posting it here!
I know The “Woodchuck”
Is what we called that Wayne
And we give him that name
Cuz back in the good old days
That good old boy
He built many a good fire
For many a good party
On that good old road
We called it Lover’s Lane
Wayne Warkentin may have died
But Wayne was my friend
And I don’t think of my friend as dead
I think the Woodchuck just said,
“It’s time for me to fly.”
Godspeed to you, boy.
And Long live the Woodchuck.
Yer friend,
Dave

Wayne and I became friends in high school, and spent a lot of time together in the years after. He was my Best Man at our wedding. We had lost touch for many years but had a nice long conversation at his Dad's funeral.
Seeing this obit was a shock to me. Sincere condolences to his family.

Wayne was one my cousins I was closest to growing up. When my family moved back to Canada in 1970 he became an important part of my life as he was such a welcoming person. We spent many hours together at his farm in Landmark and it was tremendous fun. For me being able to ride his motorbike, shoot his pellet gun or just do stuff together was so much fun. We talked a lot about life in our teenage years.
But we went our separate ways and I left the province for many years. Recently we connected at his mom's funeral and I found we still had a very powerful connection even after all those years.
Wayne you will be missed. Thanks for being such a good friend and helping me settle back in Canada all those years ago.
