Obituary of Gordon Herman Schalla

Gordon Schalla, aged 77 years old, of Steinbach, MB passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife Anne, children Denise (Greg) Wojcikowski, Darlene (Leonard) Dueck and Russell (Sharla) Schalla, his grandchildren: Hayley, Amanda, Michaela, Rebecca, David, Matthew, Colin and Danica. Gordon is also survived by his sisters, Beverley Schalla, Janet (Abe) Harder and brother Clifford (Anne) Schalla.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Lillian Schalla, in-laws Aron and Helena Teichroeb, brother Wilbert Schalla and sisters Sylvia Rempel, Alice Meyer and Jackie Pandey.           

Gordon was a life-long resident of Steinbach, MB. Gordon knew a lot of people and had many friends. He always said that owning Sunshine Greenhouse was the best time of his life. He loved getting his hands dirty planting trees and strawberries as well as visiting with the people who came to the greenhouse. He always enjoyed volunteering with the Lions Club, food bank, Fernwood board and the church council.

He was a proud father and grandfather as well as a generous friend to all. He was always willing to lend a hand. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with friends and family at his cabin in Bissett. We will miss his stories and jokes… even the bad ones.

As a family, we would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Dr. M. Pitz, Dr. K. Toews and staff at the rehab and medical wards at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre as well as all the visits and prayers from family and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service. 

Burial will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy 12, Hanover, MB.
